Great news for BLOCK NINE ARCHITECTS and our longstanding clients at Nanny Cay in the British Virgin Islands, as construction is now underway on our new marina project.
The first phase of construction is the formation of a 1,500ft breakwater, which will provide the primary sea defence for the new site.
This phase is due for completion in October 2026, after which the marina basin will be dredged to create sufficient depth for the next generation of catamarans.
The excavated seabed material will then be reused to create reclaimed land for the marina's supporting facilities.
A series of reports have been undertaken along with meticulous coral relocation and tidal modelling to ensure the new marina does not have a detrimental impact on the existing ecology.
At the heart of the Masterplan is a long, sinuous covered walkway, creating a key circulation route that reconnects the existing Inner and Outer Marinas.
Designed to support the new 112-slip marina, the Masterplan includes a Retail Village, Events Space and Corporate Facility for the BVI Spring Regatta, a Marine Hub with Sailing Club and Teaching Facilities for students from the local Community College, Turtle Sanctuary and centrally located Concierge Facilities all with panoramic views across the marina and the Sir Francis Drake Channel.
Together, these enhancements will transform Nanny Cay into a premier marine destination, with an upgraded boatyard and chandlery, expanded amenities and vibrant new community spaces, while preserving the Caribbean village character that has made the marina so special for decades.
The result is a destination that is more resilient, more connected and ready for the future.
The project will not only help improve local leisure facilities but also boost tourism and construction industries, strengthen communities locally while creating opportunities to raise skill levels and drive job creation.
Having worked with Nanny Cay Marina for over eleven years, and developing this project over the past three, we're incredibly proud to see construction begin.
