Newbury Street, EC1- London
Few London addresses carry the layered weight of architectural history quite like Newbury Street, EC1.
Nestled in the shadow of the Barbican, a place that has seen Roman fortifications, medieval gateways, wartime devastation, and one of the world's most ambitious urban regenerations, our latest project feels like a continuation of that long story of reinvention.
Situated within the Smithfield Conservation Area, a narrow street of old print warehouses forms the backdrop for a comprehensive retrofit and extension.
The existing office building will be stripped back to its original brick shell, with an improved thermal envelope re-establishing the building's relationship with its historic fabric.
Behind that restored exterior, an entirely new interior will be constructed, modernised office accommodation tailored to our client's operational needs, topped with a new-build contemporary two-bedroom apartment set beneath a newly designed roof.
Old and new, in careful conversation.
With planning and building control applications submitted and the project moving to tender, we look forward to seeing this project come to life on site and to delivering something that genuinely improves how our client works and lives in the heart of the City.
P.S. None of this would have been possible without the creativity and hard work of our Senior Architectural Technologist, Matthew Gibson MCIAT and our architect, Josh Cullerton, who are bringing these ideas to life so beautifully.
