Historic Braid Estate in the Morningside area of Edinburgh
At the beginning of April, we were pleased to receive planning consent for a new-build family home in the historic Braid Estate in the Morningside area of Edinburgh.
Whilst the existing gap site within the well-proportioned suburb lends itself perfectly for a development of this nature and size, it proved to be a unique challenge to develop the ideal home for contemporary family life within this part of the city.
Working closely with our passionate and inquisitive clients, we have developed a proposal that balances a modern internal floor layout with a traditional material palette, and a nod to the local vernacular found elsewhere on the estate.
Designing in these environments is a real privilege, and a great opportunity to increase our understanding of traditional methods of building and how bringing a contemporary outlook can redefine them, and create a home built for generations to come.
We look forward to developing the project further through technical design over the coming months.
P.S. None of this would have been possible without the creativity and hard work of our Associate Directors Stephanie Else and our Architect Matthew Thomson, who are bringing these ideas to life so beautifully.
